The spirit of Latin America hits Milan with a bang, as thousands flock to the grounds of the city's Forum for the Festival Latino Americando. This outdoor cultural extravaganza creates a "South American village" with numerous internationally renowned musicians, literature, visual and performing arts, handicrafts, film, folklore and food from the region.
In 2005 the festival celebrates its 15th edition, offering a taster of Latin American culture and a better understanding of its people. The village is divided into themed festival plazas representing Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Mexico and Peru, among others, all offering music, food and stalls with local crafts and books.
Music is the centrepiece of the event with a hot act on stage each night. Past highlights have included Colombia's salsa kings Grupo Niche, Gilberto Gil, Bebel Gilberto, Celia Cruz and Omara Portuondo of Buena Vista Social Club fame.
With such a variety of performances and entertainment, this festival is certainly not to be missed, adding some spice to Milan during the hot summer nights.
The festival website publishes full details of the programme for 2005 closer to the date.
