Benito Mussolini

Benito Mussolini (whose full name was Benito Amilcare Andrea Mussolini) is a good personality to start discussing the racist history of Milan about. Benito Mussolini eventually set himself up as the dictator of the Italian fascists. Benito Mussolini was close to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler and was able to influence Hitler to  a certain extent. Benito Mussolini was later executed by Italian Communist partisans after he was ousted from the Italian government.

Italian partisans

As a counterpoint to the racist history of Milan, the Italian partisans were able to provide resistance to both the Italian fascists under Benito Mussolini and the German military that later occupied Italy. An estimated 35,000 female Italian partisans were part of the armed partisan movement numbering over 300,000. The Italian word for the Italian partisans’ movement is the Resistenza. This armed movement by  the Italian partisans is said to be the basis of the 1948 Italian Republic’s democratic Constitution.
